SPIDER FIGHTING

What's a spider fight?

A spider fight is putting two spiders all together in one stick and they will face each other. They will then start to fight and the most vicious, the hungrier and the stronger fighter will be victorious.

The slain opponent will then be part of the vicious diet of the winning spider. What's catching about the spider fight is when the winner spins off its web, covering and wrapping its opponent until it becomes breathless, gasping for air.

I love this game because of the notion of "survival of the fittest." In a way, it amazes me because in the modern world, you have to be strong in order to survive emotionally and physically. Mental and physical toughness is very important.

I played this game with my classmates and neighbors who were also spider fighting enthusiasts. At that time, we would buy them outside the school campus although it was prohibited in our school to buy them.

These days, at the age of 32, I still want to buy those fighting spiders since I just knew from a friend that they were still selling up to now.

Some people think this is morbid and doing harm to animals but here in the Philippines, this is part of our culture and heritage. Like in Saudi Arabia, a 10-year-old girl is already being wed. In some European countries, gay marriage is allowed. In the North Pole, Eskimos offer their wives to visitors.

I guess people are different in many ways especially the way their environment and the people around them influences them to be enthusiastic with so many different and varied things.

This is our traditional way of spider fighting.
